The following companies are discontinuing their operations and, accordingly cannot write new business or renew existing contracts. With discontinuing status, however, companies remain obligated to service existing contracts and to settle claims under these contracts.

The licences of the following insurers have been cancelled after satisfactory arrangements have been made for any insurance liabilities

The National Reinsurance Company of Canada The insurance liabilities have been assumed by Abeille Réassurance.	22 April 1994
The Omaha Indemnity Company The company settled its policy liabilities in Ontario.	9 May 1994
Sovereign Marine & General Insurance Company Limited The company settled its policy liabilities in Ontario.	30 June 1994
Union Reinsurance Company The insurance liabilities have been assumed by an affiliated insurer, Canadian Reinsurance Company	24 May 1994

Amalgamations:

New York Life Insurance Company of Canada and The Canada Life Assurance Company

The amalgamated company will use the name, The Canada Life Assurance Company. The licence of New York Life Insurance Company of Canada has been cancelled.
