Corporate Licensing Activity


The following changes have occurred to insurers' licences during the quarter ended September 30, 1991.

New insurers:

  • Primerica Life Insurance Company of Canada was licensed on September 23, 1991, to write life, accident and sickness classes of insurance.  The company can be contacted in Ontario through David Gershuni, Sr. Vice President and CEO, 350 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W., Suite 301, Mississauga, Ontario, L4T 4C2 or by telephone at (416) 848-7731. Fax (416) 270-7096.

Changes to Licences:

  • Bertie and Clinton Mutual Fire Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, Bertie and Clinton Mutual Insurance Company, effective August 1, 1991.

  • Canadian Home Assurance Company's licence has been amended to add the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective August 9, 1991.

  • Constellation Assurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, The Prudential Group Assurance Company of England (Canada), effective August 9, 1991.

  • Economical Mutual Insurance Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective August 30, 1991

  • Kingsway General Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the accident and sickness class of insurance, restricted to the running-off of business assumed from Heritage General Insurance Company in accordance with approval agreement dated May 1, 1991, effective August 22, 1991.

  • Old Republic Insurance Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective September 27, 1991.

  • Ontario School Boards' Insurance Exchange's licence has been amended to add the boiler and machinery class of insurance, effective August 28, 1991.

  • The Commercial Travellers' Association of Canada's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, Canadian Professional Sales Association, effective August 1, 1991.

  • The Orion Insurance Company, Limited's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, The Orion Insurance Company PLC, and to delete the accident and sickness and boiler and machinery classes of insurance, effective August 9, 1991.

  • The Prudential Group Assurance Company of England (Canada)'s licence has been amended to delete the life class of insurance, effective August 9, 1991.

  • Trafalgar Insurance Company of Canada's licence has been amended to add the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective August 9, 1991.

  • Underwriters Reinsurance Company's licence has been amended to add the condition that in the transaction of its business in Ontario the company shall be known as "Underwriters Insurance Company", effective July 26, 1991.
