Corporate Licensing Activity - First Quarter 1992
The following changes have occurred to insurers' licences during the quarter ended March 31, 1992.
Amalgamations:
The Laurentian Shield Insurance Company, Laurentian Casualty Company of Canada and Laurentian Pacific Insurance Company amalgamated to form a new company, Laurentian P&C Insurance Company, effective January 1, 1992. Laurentian P&C Insurance Company is licensed to write accident and sickness, aircraft, automobile, boiler and machinery, credit, fidelity, hail, liability, property and surety. Roy Lever remains as chief agent. Accordingly the licences of The Laurentian Shield Insurance Company, Laurentian Casualty Company of Canada and Laurentian Pacific Insurance Company have been cancelled.
Discontinuing and Withdrawing Insurers:
Canadian Foresters Life Insurance Society's policy liabilities have been assumed by The Independent Order of Foresters, effective January 1, 1992. Canadian Foresters Life Insurance Society's licence has been cancelled, effective March 30, 1992.
Les Coopérants, Société Mutuelle d'Assurance-Vie is being wound up by order dated January 3, 1992. Les Coopérants, Société Mutuelle d'Assurance-Vie's licence has been cancelled, effective January 23, 1992.
Massachusetts Indemnity and Life Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective March 16, 1992.
Otter Dorchester Insurance Company Limited's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective January 9, 1992.
Phoenix Assurance Public Limited Company's policy liabilities have been assumed by Sun Alliance Insurance Company, effective January 1, 1992. Phoenix Assurance Public Limited Company's licence has been cancelled, effective March 5, 1992.
Changes to Licences:
ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society's licence has been amended to reflect the addition of the French corporate name, La Société Fraternelle ACTRA, effective March 20, 1992.
Avemco Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the marine class of insurance, effective February 19, 1992.
Aviation & General Insurance Company Limited's licence has been amended to delete the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective February 6, 1992.
AXA Home Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, AXA Insurance (Canada), effective March 4, 1992.
Employers Insurance of Wausau, A Mutual Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective February 18, 1992.
Hay Township Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, Hay Mutual Insurance Company, effective March 20, 1992.
The Insurance Corporation of Ireland Limited's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, ICAROM Public Limited Company, effective March 4, 1992.
The Missisquoi Insurance Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident and sickness class of insurance, effective February 6, 1992.
Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society, Limited's licence has been amended to add the liability class of insurance, effective February 17, 1992.
Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Fraternal Society's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, Teachers Fraternal Society of Ontario, effective March 6, 1992.
The Prudential Assurance Company of England Property And Casualty (Canada)'s licence has been amended to add the marine class of insurance, effective February 12, 1992.
United Provinces Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, AXA Insurance Inc., effective March 30, 1992.
Utica Mutual Insurance Company's licence has also been amended to add the liability class of insurance, effective March 2, 1992.
The Victory Reinsurance Company Limited's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, NRG Victory Reinsurance Limited, effective February 19, 1992.
NRG Victory Reinsurance Limited's licence has also been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, for life and accident and sickness insurance, effective February 19, 1992. The company continues to be licensed for automobile, fidelity, liability, marine, property and surety but limited to the business of reinsurance.
