Changes to Licences - Second Quarter 1995, List of Ontario

As part of ongoing efforts to communicate matters of interest to the insurance industry, the Ontario Insurance Commission (OIC) is releasing the following information on changes to licences for the quarter ended June 30, 1995.

The changes are wide-ranging and may include announcements such as insurance companies with new licences, insurance company amalgamations, licensing cancellations, and licensing amendments.

New companies:

Amalgamations:

The Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada and The Prudential Life Assurance Company of England (Canada) The amalgamated company will use the name The Mutual Life Assurance Company of Canada. The licence of The Prudential Life Assurance Company of England (Canada) has been cancelled.	26 June 1995
Globe Life Insurance Company and Combined Insurance Company of America The amalgamated company will use the name Combined Insurance Company of America. The licence of Globe Life Insurance Company has been cancelled	29 June 1995

Discontinuing & withdrawing companies:

The following company discontinued its operations and, accordingly cannot write new or renew insurance contracts.

Licence cancellations:

The licences of the following insurers have been cancelled aftersatisfactory arrangements have been made for any insurance liabilities.

The Continental Insurance Company of Canada The company transferred its policy liabilities to The Continental Insurance Company of Canada Inc., which is continuing its business operations. This was concluded after first transferring a small portfolio of its business to TheContinental Insurance Company.	7 April 1995
The Dominion Insurance Corporation The company transferred its policy liabilities to Continental Insurance Limited, which is continuing its business operations. This was concluded after first transferring a small portfolio of its business to The Continental Insurance Company.	7 April 1995
Guildhall Insurance Company Limited The company transferred its policy liabilities to The London Assurance.	15 June 1995
Kansa General International Insurance Company Limited A winding-up order has been obtained from the Superior Court of Quebec and a liquidator has been appointed.	8 June 1995
Old Republic Insurance Company The company transferred its policy liabilities to Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada.	28 June 1995
The Orion Insurance Company PLC A winding-up order has been obtained from the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superintendent of Financial Institutions was appointed liquidator.	15 May 1995
The Prudential Assurance Company Limited (Of England ) The company transferred its policy liabilities to The Prudential Life Assurance Company of England (Canada).	27 June 1995
The Prudential Group Assurance Company Of England (Canada) The company transferred its policy liabilities to Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.	5 May 1995
Seaboard Surety Company The company transferred its policy liabilities to Seaboard Surety Company of Canada	15 June 1995
Transport Insurance Company The company settled its policy liabilities in Ontario.	14 June 1995
