Licensing Changes - Second Quarter 1996

As part of ongoing efforts to communicate matters of interest to the insurance industry, the Ontario Insurance Commission (OIC) is releasing the following information on changes to licences for the quarter ending June 30, 1996.

The changes in the second quarter of 1996 include announcements such as insurance companies with new licences, insurance company amalgamations, licensing cancellations and amendments.

New companies:

AXA Réassurance and Abeille Réassurances The amalgamated company will use the name AXA Réassurance.The licence of Abeille Réassurances has been cancelled.	28 June 1996
Desjardins-Laurentian Life Assurance Company Inc. and Aeterna-Life Insurance Company The amalgamated company will use the name Desjardins-Laurentian Life Assurance Company Inc. The licence of Aeterna-Life Insurance Company has been cancelled.	19 April 1996
The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company and North American Life Assurance Company The amalgamated company will use the name The ManufacturersLife Insurance Company. The licence of North American Life Assurance Company has been cancelled.	24 June 1996

Discontinuing & Withdrawing Companies:

The following company is discontinuing its operation and, accordingly cannot write new or renew insurance contracts. With discontinuing status, however, companies remain obligated to service existing contracts and to settle claims under these contracts.

The licence of the following insurer has been cancelled after satisfactory arrangements have been made for any insurance liabilities.

The company no longer has any insurance liabilities in Ontario.
