Changes to Licences - First Quarter 1995

As part of ongoing efforts to communicate matters of interest to the insurance industry, the Ontario Insurance Commission (OIC) is releasing the following information on changes to licences for the quarter ended March 31, 1995.

The changes are wide-ranging and may include announcements such as insurance companies with new licences, insurance company amalagamations, licensing cancellations, and licensing amendments.

New companies:

General Accident Indemnity Company and The General Accident Assurance Company of Canada The amalgamated company will now use the name The General Accident Assurance Company of Canada The licence of General Accident Indemnity Company has been cancelled.	14 March 1995

Confederation Life Insurance Company These companies have discontinued their operations and, accordingly, cannot write new business or renew existingcontracts. With discontinuing status, however, thecompanies remain obligated to service existing contractsand to settle claims under these contracts	3 March 1995

Licence cancellations:

The licences of the following insurers have been cancelled after satisfactory arrangements have been made for any insurance liabilities

Canadian Superior Casualty And Surety Company Ltd The company has settled its policy liabilities in Ontario.	15 March 1995
Civil Service Mutual Benefit Society The company has transferred its policy liabilities to Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada.	8 February 1995
Foremost Insurance Company Grand Rapids, Michigan The company has settled its policy liabilities in Ontario.	20 January 1995
Order of Sons of Italy of Ontario Mutual Benefit Society The Society has settled its insurance liabilities with its members.	6 March 1995
Sun Alliance and London Assurance Company (Canada) The company has transferred its policy liabilities to North American Life Assurance Company	16 January 1995

The following company's assets are under the control of the Superintendent of Insurance, and a winding-up order has been obtained.
