Licensing Changes - Fourth Quarter 1992


The following changes have occurred to insurers' licences during the quarter ended December 31, 1992.

Amalgamations:

The Canadian Provincial Insurance Company and Canadian Home Assurance Company amalgamated, effective December 31, 1992.  The continuing entity will carry on business under the name Allianz Insurance Company of Canada. Allianz Insurance Company of Canada is licensed to write accident and sickness, automobile, boiler and machinery, fidelity, liability, property and surety.  Ray F. Rush remains chief agent. Accordingly, the licences of The Canadian Provincial Insurance Company and Canadian Home Assurance Company have been cancelled.

Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Canada amalgamated with Metropolitan Insurance Company, effective December 30, 1992.  The continuing entity will carry on business as Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Canada. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company of Canada is licensed to write accident and sickness, automobile, liability, life, marine and property, subject to the condition that the company is restricted in the classes of automobile, liability, marine and property to running-off business existing at the date of the amalgamation.  John H. Tweedie remains president and chief executive officer. Accordingly, the licence in the name of Metropolitan Insurance Company has been cancelled.

New Insurers:

J.C. Penney Life Insurance Company was licensed on November 23, 1992 to write life, accident and sickness.  The company can be contacted in Ontario through Robert W. Discontinuing & Withdrawing Insurers:

Balboa Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective January 1, 1993.

Granite Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 25, 1992.

The Hanover Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective October 20, 1992.

John Alden Life Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 9, 1992.

The Laurentian Life And Health Insurance Corporation's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective December 11, 1992.

The National Reinsurance Company of Canada's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 25, 1992.

The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective December 17, 1992.

Transport Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective October 21, 1992.

The Unity Fire And General Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 19, 1992.

The Workmen's Circle's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 16, 1992.

Changes to Licences:

Balboa Insurance Company's licence has been amended to limit it to the business of reinsurance, effective November 19, 1992.

Blanshard Mutual Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the boiler & machinery class of insurance, effective November 6, 1992.

Caradoc Delaware Mutual Fire Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the automobile class of insurance, effective December 16, 1992.

Howick Mutual Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the boiler & machinery class of insurance, effective November 16, 1992.

Kingsway General Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the accident and sickness class of insurance and delete the aircraft class of insurance, effective November 20, 1992.

Lambton Mutual Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the boiler & machinery class of insurance, effective November 10, 1992.

Massachusetts Indemnity And Life Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new name, Primerica Life Insurance Company, effective October 22, 1992.

Metro Public Education Insurance Exchange's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status for automobile, effective December 11, 1992.

The National Reinsurance Company of Canada's licence has been amended to reflect its French name "La Nationale, Compagnie de Réassurance du Canada", effective November 25, 1992.

Prudential of America General Insurance Company (Canada)'s licence has been amended to reflect the addition of the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective December 24, 1992.

State Farm Fire And Casualty Company's licence has been amended to reflect the deletion of the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective November 6, 1992.
