New background design for Motor Vehicle Liability insurance card

To the attention of all insurance companies licensed
to transact automobile insurance in Ontario

We are releasing, with this bulletin, a new design for the background of the motor vehicle liability insurance card (insurance card) issued to policyholders. The design, which incorporates the shield for the Territory of Nunavut, is to replace the design now in use.

The Nunavut shield is to be located at the bottom, right-hand corner of the design, as shown in the attached design specimen. This change to insurance cards is effective immediately. However, to allow for a smooth transition, current supplies of the insurance card can be used until September 30, 2000, so insurers can deplete their inventory.

At a recent meeting, the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators determined that the background design on insurance cards must include the current shield for all Canadian provinces and territories.

Optional artwork on the revised background for the cards is available from Informco Inc. (telephone number: (416) 285-1700).
